Helical Piers Case Studies
Case - Art Wiebe
Case History
Art Wiebe called from Winnipeg, Manitoba. He was told that we were the Helical Pile Dealer in Northwestern Ontario and Manitoba.
Mr. Wiebe put an addition on his house about 10 years ago. The addition was approximately 20X35. The north side of the addition had dropped approximately 2 inches. The house had several structural cracks inside the house. The basement was poured concrete.
Solution
9 piles were installed four feet apart from each other. Jacks were installed on the piles and the addition was lifted to its proper height. The hole was then back filled and landscaping finished.
Case - Terrace Bay
Case History
We were called to Terrace Bay, Ontario by Strone Restoration. Fuel oil tank that housed fuel for the heating system in the house began leaking. By the time the home owners had realized the tank was leaking, there was a large amount of fuel that had escaped from the tank and saturated the ground down to and below the footings of the house. The contaminated materials around the house were excavated to the bottom of the footing. It was determined then that contamination had gone under neath the footings. The contaminated soil had to be removed from under the footings.
Solution
CJ Contracting was called to the job to support the house so that contaminated soil could be removed from under the footings and concrete floor. Helical piles were installed to support the weight of the house in the affected area. Piles were installed to a depth of 35 feet. Where adequate torque was reached.
Strone was then able to excavate under the footing and concrete slab to remove the rest of the contaminated soil. The hole was back filled and the helical piles were left to support the house.
Case - Fuel Tank Leak
Case History
Fuel tank leak in Sioux Lookout, Ontario. We were called in by Service Master Restoration. Fuel had leaked from tank to under footings.
Solution
Service master and their crew began removal of contaminated soil. Once they reached bottom of the footing, it was determined by the Geotechnical Engineer that the soil was contaminated under the footing. CJ Contracting was called in to install 18 helical piles to support the north east and south side of the house in the affected area.Contaminated soil was then removed from under the footing. Once all contaminated soil was removed the excavation was back filled with sand, top soil applied. Finished job with sod.
Case - Fuel Spill
Case History
We were called to Kenora, Ontario by Dominion Soil Testing(DST). Home owner noticed a fuel spill beside his house. DST was called in . Excavating started immediately to remove the contaminated soil. Contaminated soil went down and under the footing.
Solution
CJ Contracting was called to support the house with helical piles so that contaminated soil could be removed from under the footing. Excavation was approximately 4 feet below the footing.
As you can see by the photos, only two helical piles were required to support the structure of the house. Once all contaminated soil was removed, the excavation was back filled with sand and piles left to permanently support the house.
